Overview

Menzies was appointed to deliver comprehensive groundworks and enabling works for the Ravenscraig Flats development in Kirkcaldy. The project involved preparing the site for the next stage of construction through excavation, drainage infrastructure, temporary service installations, and extensive site preparation.

The scope of works included excavation to reduce ground levels, disposal of excavated materials, installation of compacted Type 1 hardcore, waterproofing measures using geotextile membranes, and reinstatement of existing paving slabs on prepared sand beds to create safe, level finished surfaces.

Site Preparation & Groundworks

A significant element of the project involved extensive groundworks to create a stable construction platform.

Bulk excavation and reduction of existing ground levels

Waterproofing using geotextile membranes
Reinstatement of paving slabs
Topsoil spreading and fertilising

Surveying & Site Investigation

Before construction activities progressed, detailed surveys were undertaken to verify site conditions and identify existing buried services.

CBR testing
Plate bearing tests
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveys
Utility location surveys

These investigations reduced construction risks and ensured the development could proceed safely while protecting existing underground infrastructure.
