RNLI Anstruther

Slipway Ramp Removal & Reinstatement

Client: RNLI
Location: RNLI Anstruther Lifeboat Station
Principal Contractor: Thomas Menzies Builders Ltd
Sector: Marine / Civil Engineering
Project Duration: 8 weeks

Overview

Works were undertaken at RNLI Anstruther Lifeboat Station on behalf of the RNLI to remove and reinstate a temporary slipway ramp within a live marine environment.

The project involved detailed pre-condition surveys, site clearance, relocation of street furniture and harbour features, breakout of existing concrete elements, and controlled excavation to formation. Due to tidal conditions reaching +2.6m MHWS, temporary water management measures including 1-tonne sandbags and protective wrapping were installed and maintained throughout critical phases of the works.

The new ramp was constructed using reinforced C32/40 early-strength concrete with geogrid-reinforced sub-base, integrated movement joints, and tamped finish suitable for marine exposure. Associated works included kerbing, blacktop reinstatement, fencing adjustments, and stairway interface modifications.

All works were carefully sequenced to maintain operational access to the lifeboat station, with full reinstatement of surrounding surfaces and infrastructure upon completion. The project demonstrates capability in delivering durable marine civil engineering works within a tidal and operationally sensitive environment.
